Iran extends olive branch to Israel and U.S
Uzbekistan News.Net Sunday 27th January, 2008
Iran says its relations with Israel could change, and its ties with the U.S. would not remain severed forever.
The country's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, in an interview with Israeli media, also reiterated Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons.
Speaking to the radio network, Voice of Israel, at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Sunday, Mottaki said, "Iran is not threatening Israel and does not want nuclear weapons."
"Israel has nuclear weapons and it is threatening Teheran," he said.
The Iranian foreign minister said there were two countries Iran did not recognize, apartheid-era South Africa, and Israel.
"In the case of South Africa, the problem was solved with the end of apartheid, and if the situation also changes in the other case (Israel), there is no reason why relations with that country cannot change too," he said.
Separately, Mottaki said Iran-U.S. ties would not remain severed forever.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday night at the World Economic Forum, Mottaki said that he could, "imagine a day to normalize ties with the U.S. but there are many obstacles."
Mottaki stressed Tehran does not want severance of ties with Washington despite the current tension over Iran's nuclear program, and its alleged support for insurgents in Iraq.
However, the Iranian minister said the time and mechanism of normalizing Iran-U.S. ties were dependent on "a number of factors." He added that any change in Iran-US ties was not related to U.S. presidential election but related "to the U.S. policy towards Iran." "We have not so far, seen any change in U.S. policies," Mottaki said. Email this story to a friend

TEHRAN, Jan 27 — A top military official said the objective of US President George W. Bushâs recent Mideast tour was to separate Iran from the regional states.
In an interview with Al-Jazeera television on Sunday, Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Islamic Revolutionâs Guards Corps (IRGC), added that in case of the US invasion of Iran, the US forces will be targeted by Iranâs long-range missiles, IRNA reported.
âAfter the US officials realized that their attempt to separate Iran from its neighboring countries, particularly the Muslim Arab states, was in vain, and following President Mahmoud Ahmadinejadâs successful visit to the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, the US president decided to come to the region to promote his own policy,â he said.

Lies and more lies
How many times has the iranian nutcase leader said he promises to blow israel off the map?
Never, actually.
Anyhow, here are 935 more warmongering lies - which the US establishment presstitudes also amplified.
CHAN AKYA
The rogue and the pogue
The trader who lost Societe Generale US$7 billion is a kindergarten brat compared with the chaps heading the world’s major central banks, whose actions cost the world economy a few trillion dollars, give or take. That said, he might well have forced the Federal Reserve’s hand this week, complete with consequences that include upward pressure on Asian currencies. (Jan 25, '08)

OBITUARY
Suharto leaves an iron-fist legacy
Indonesia’s always smiling second president Suharto, who died on Sunday, was a complex autocrat who skillfully wielded power with a recipe of introspection, impeccable timing and adroit personal connections. But his legacy remains a chaotic scramble to shake off years of paternalistic rule and to forge a workable democracy. Had Suharto seen the need for more openness and started the process of change earlier, Indonesia’s transition would have been less painful. - Michael Vatikiotis (Jan 27, '08)
Economic upside - and downside
Suharto was hailed as the chief architect of Indonesia’s extraordinary economic boom, laying the foundations of prosperity after cooling disastrous 600% hyperinflation when he came to power. But others say there was a tradeoff - that he ran the country like a mafia don, with endemic corruption and nepotism his trademarks. - Tom McCawley (Jan 27, '08)
Sharif picked to tame Pakistan’s militancy
Both the Pakistan government and the United States admit to “gaps in intelligence” about militants, to the extent Islamabad fears an imminent country-wide clash between security and extremist forces. The remaining political hope to address the problem is former premier Nawaz Sharif. The race is now on to broker a deal between Sharif and his nemesis, President Pervez Musharraf. - Syed Saleem Shahzad (Jan 25, '08)
The Gaza 'tea party'
Israel’s crippling siege of the Gaza Strip has infuriated the Arab world. From Casablanca to Baghdad, it’s believed that the US is using Israel to annihilate Hamas, as 1.5 million civilians slowly suffer and starve. For such “collective punishment” to be understood in the United States, Americans could search their own history - for a port, a siege and the fateful consequences. - Sami Moubayed (Jan 25, '08)
Two men, two legs and too much suffering
Iraqis and Afghans will promptly be forgotten - if the Vietnam experience is any measure - when the wars in their countries are over, while Americans focus
on the “lessons” to be learned from an “American tragedy”. Two voices from Vietnam - farmers from the Mekong Delta, both of whom lost legs in what they call “the American War” - have moving messages for America. - Nick Turse (Jan 25, '08)
The ghosts of the American War
The spiritual remains of the unknown war dead take on a vital presence in popular Vietnamese religious culture and everyday life. They are also a powerful means of historical narration and reflection in contemporary Vietnam; as the villagers of My Lai, scene of the infamous massacre, show. (Jan 25, '08)
SPEAKING FREELY
Forget about war with Iran?
While some Beltway pundits are applauding the George W Bush administration’s apparent rethinking of its plans to bomb Iran, their cheers may be premature. What if Israel got the “yellow light” and the US backed its faithful ally? Stranger things have happened - like two planes flying into the World Trade Center. - Leon Hadar (Jan 25, '08)
China’s 'Olympic' approach to refugees
China is taking a two-system approach to North Korean refugees as the Summer Olympics draw near. In hopes of making the capital a “refugee-free city”, Beijing is quickly issuing exit stamps for North Koreans who’ve found diplomatic shelter, while also cracking down hard on those who aren’t behind embassy or United Nations walls. - Sunny Lee (Jan 25, '08)
BOOK REVIEW
Black turbans rebound
Koran, Kalashnikov and Laptop by Antonio Giustozzi
In this revealing book, the reasons for the resurgence of the “new” Taliban in Afghanistan are made clear. The internal weaknesses of the Afghan state - particularly the limp-wristed administration of President Hamid Karzai - opened the window for the insurgents to re-establish themselves. They also have less rigid attitudes than their 1994-2001 predecessors towards technologies like the Internet and video production. - Sreeram Chaulia (Jan 25, '08)
Iran sanctions hit the wrong target
Under the auspices of the United Nations Security Council, and separate from the United States' own initiatives, Iran faces another round of sanctions over its nuclear program. There’s talk of asset freezes and travel bans, but just as they have not worked in the past, the sanctions are unlikely to prove effective. The UN ends up diminished, and the need for Tehran’s case to be handled by the International Atomic Energy Agency becomes all the more pressing. - Kaveh L Afrasiabi (Jan 24, '08)
EDITORIAL
Xposed! Norman Podhoretz’s boobs
Just as the UN Security Council plus Germany reach agreement on a resolution to impose further sanctions on Iran, the Wall Street Journal, in true Rupert Murdoch style, sees fit to publish sexbomb-them-now Norman Podhoretz’s boobs on its equivalent of Page 3. Be warned: it’s flabby stuff. (Jan 24, '08)
Envoy’s belly dancer bares all
At age 26, Nadira Alieva has already seemingly lived several lifetimes - most of them sordid. The Uzbek daughter of a drug and alcohol-addicted actor, a rape victim and former Tashkent pole dancer, she was “rescued” by a British ambassador who left his wife and diplomatic career for her. She’s currently telling her story in a solo performance in London, and she has her eyes on Hollywood. (Jan 24, '08)
Crying (Iranian) wolf in Argentina
For 13 years the US and Argentina have charged that Iran was behind the fatal fire-bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. In November, reported pressure from the two governments led Interpol to “red list” five former Iranian officials and a Hezbollah leader for allegedly masterminding the attack. But a FBI agent and top US diplomats now say no real evidence was ever produced and any link with Iran was at best “flimsy”. - Gareth Porter (Jan 24, '08)

Hating Arabs is anti-semtici too
It is not anti-semitic to criticize Israel and Zionism. Israel has certainly commited a lot of crimes, most which go unpunished.
But since Arabs are also Semites, that would make a Jew who criticizes Arabs and calls them names anti-semtitic too.
Or maybe anti-semitism directed at Arabs is ok but bud when directed at Jews?
Or you could say that anti-semitism is an incorrect label since most Jews are not descended from the mid east but are a Turkic people from Asia known as the Khazars. So one could say that criticizing Jews and Israel is anti-Khazaric. Now that sounds better.

Idiots
The “CREATOR” of the old testement would be pleased to hear the remarks on this page, The same god that destroyed sodem and gamora, told ezeikil to to bake his bread on human excrement because isreal was not kosher, made adam and eve crawl and grovel for eating an apple, flooded the earth(300BC???? .LOL)put the dinasour bones here to trick us.
gave us a brain but if we use it we will go to hell, put the mans G-spot in the anus,Give men urges that no matter what you do, you will kill about 3 million lives(you say the the unfertilised egg is a life then why don’t you hand sperm out in church to save those lives).
I think your god may be the devil.
You are obviosly an idiot if you had half a brain you would see bush is a racist nazi but I spose your god is a racist even though his so called son was black.
What about over 600 000 Iraq civilians dead, depleated uranium ammunition, unexploded cluster bombs, phophoras and napalm being used on civilians
Also Abugriab,Guantanamo Bay and secret renditions taking not just men but women and children to be tortured, does that not ring alarm bells or are they just heathens to you.
your tax dollar is funding that(Terrorism).
What of All the other countries you have medled in for there resources. On this page and in the media there is talk of going into Iran.
Though I pitty the children you will kill, I know you will get slaughtered As it’s taken longer than world war2 for you to get to the stage your at in Iraq now plus you bombed the shit out of it for over ten years before the invasion, You will get slaughtered unless you use a Nuke to stop the fantasy Nuke.
Also you can dream and cry bloodlust all you like China and Russia aren’t going to let you so Na Na Naa na Na there guns bigger than your gun and they got the BOMB.
I wonder in 20 years time when your kids are still paying for this war will they think it is worth it if any of us are servive this madness.
I think you will find the koran tame compared to the EVIL bible you say is about love..........
31:15, âsix days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the lord; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall be PUT TO DEATHâ
(Exodus 21:7-11 NLT) When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.
Exodus 21:20-21 NAB “When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property."
there are lots of evil lines in the bible and I think you hate the fact the muslims are more devote and have a book that fits well in there lives.
where as the Bible because it is to hard to follow or understand creates phedophiles and mass murderers.

Americans born liars by generation-not any other nation-how dare the American blame Iranians lies???!!!
Jan. 23 — A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that US President George W. Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The study concluded that the statements âwere part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretensesâ, AP reported.
The study was posted Tuesday on the website of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.
White House Spokesman Scott Stanzel did not comment on the merits of the study Tuesday night but reiterated the administrationâs position that the world community viewed Iraqâs leader, Saddam Hussein, as a threat.
âThe actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world,â Stanzel said.
The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to Al-Qaeda or both.
âIt is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to Al-Qaeda,â according to Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith of the Fund for Independence in Journalism staff members, writing an overview of the study.
Named in the study along with Bush were top officials of the administration during the period studied: Vice President Dick Cheney, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan.
Bush led with 259 false statements, 231 about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 28 about Iraqâs links to Al-Qaeda, the study found. That was second only to Powellâs 244 false statements about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 10 about Iraq and Al-Qaeda.

there is no olive branch for America-its American propaganda as they are afraid-they are muddling into the shit of humiliations
TEHRAN, Jan. 28 — Majlis Speaker Gholamali Haddad Adel said the recent US pressure on different countries to issue a new resolution against Iran is an electoral move.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, the speaker said Washington believes that an anti-Iran decision of the International Atomic Energy Agencyâs Director General Mohamed ElBaradei would benefit the US Republicans, IRNA reported.
âThe Americans want to make up for their defeated policies in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine,â he said.
âThey believe that if they portray a gloomy future for the Iranian people, they would have no motivation for participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections.â
Haddad stressed that the US should know that the Iranian nation have identical views with their officials regarding the peaceful nuclear program.
âAlthough the IAEA reports confirm the peaceful nature of Iranâs nuclear activities and there is good cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog, the American attempts to get a new resolution passed against Iran is a big question,â he said.
Haddad noted that Washington is not willing to settle Iranâs nuclear issue through logical and legal channels.
Referring to the recent Israeli raids on Gaza Strip, he said, âThe US, despite its claims, is struggling against a government that has come to power with the majority vote of Palestinians.â

By the way
This will be largely ignored by the US media, or spun to make Iran sound like they are trying to manipulate or some crap.

For those who still think their rpesident called for Israel to be wiped off the map. Remember the Bush agenda (control of Iranian oil) and remember that it was his goons that mis-translated what he said.

Later, correct translations of his speech went more like this:

“Much like the leaders of the roman empire and the communist soviet union, the zionist regime in Israel will vanish from the pages of time”

Means something quite different when translated correctly and the full context given.

wow this is amazing
The amount of dumbass americans who believe every bit of crap that is spewed out of fox news posting here is astounding. There is no proof of any of these accusations against Iran. I suppose you think Iraq had WMD don’t you. I suppose you believe they transported them away or some crap (the bush admins backpeddling). Coz thats exactly what you do isn’t it. You country is being invaded so you secretly remove your most powerful weapons out of the country, the only weapons that might actually send the invading force packing, you don’t use, but hide away. My god you are all so stupid. I’d love to meet up with you for a game of poker!

how can anyone believe anything that comes out of Iran.
How dare Iran say 'Israel has nuclear weapons and is threatening us'!
How many times has the iranian nutcase leader said he promises to blow israel off the map? Everywhere he goes, he repeats it. Yet when Israel takes that, rightfully, as a declaration of war and intends not to let that happen....all of a sudden it’s 'israel threatening iran'
These islamic countries do nothing but lie just as their unholy koran tells them to.
The would do better to be honest and strive for peace instead of being so keen to wipe out the non moslem nations. Take responsibility for their actions, instead of blaming others. That 'fault of the U.S/Israel' is wearing thin. No one but the ignorant and misinformed believe the lies islamic nations come out with any more.
