Sony is slashing four per cent of its worldwide workforce.

As the Japanese company tries to rein in spending, 8,000 to 185,000 jobs are likely to be lost.

Sony has also said it will shut five or six plants out of its 57 factories.

Sony has announced plans to reduce its electronics investments by about one-third by the end of March 2010.
