Holiday aisles filled with DVD titles
Uzbekistan News.Net Thursday 18th December, 2008
DVD sales are up in the recession-hit holiday season.
Hollywood's film and TV studios expect DVD sales to help boost the industry in the slumping economy.
Sales of the blockbuster ‘Black Knight’ DVD, starring Christian Bale as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as the villainous Joker, has totaled more than 10 million units worldwide since its Dec. 9 release.
That amounts to an estimated $175 million in first-week sales.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment is said to be happy with sales of the musical 'Mamma Mia,' which sold more than 2.25 million units on its first day of sales.
The figure translates into just under $40 million in gross revenues.
