In a statement on Friday, Qassemi offered his condolences to the Afghan nation and government over the killing of a number of "innocent and defenseless" people in the South Asian country.

"Nowruz (Persian New Year) and the culture of Nowruz is a unifying factor between various ethnic groups in regional countries and between these countries," he said.

"This move by the Daesh is tantamount to targeting the unifying factors in the region," Qassemi said, adding, "We are confident that they will not achieve their sinister goals to create divisions in and between the countries of the region."

Multiple explosions killed at least six people and wounded 23 near a Shiite shrine in Kabul, Afghan officials say.

The Daesh terror group claimed responsibility for the Thursday attack, which took place during celebrations marking Nowruz.

Two children were among the wounded in the blasts, Kabul's Emergency Services director Muhammad Asim said.

Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said an initial investigation indicated that three explosive devices had been remotely detonated, setting off the successive blasts as people gathered there to mark Nowruz.
