BISHKEK, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan's health ministry announced on Saturday that the COVID-19 infections in the country totaled 1,365, with 15 new cases.
Among the newly confirmed cases, 10 are imported cases and the rest are contacts of the confirmed cases, Deputy Health Minister of Kyrgyzstan Nurbolot Usenbaev told a daily briefing.
An analysis has shown that a greater number of cases with positive COVID-19 are detected among citizens who returned from other countries, Usenbaev said.
The minister also stressed the high risk of infection with the virus, as social and economic activities in the country are gradually resuming. Therefore, he asked the public to observe social distancing, use antiseptics, and wear masks in premises and crowded places.
He noted that 2,245 lab tests for COVID-19 have been conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, adding that the number of recoveries increased to 957 with eight new ones in the last 24 hours.
Currently, 394 confirmed cases are still in hospital, among which five are in the intensive care unit. In total, 1,902 people who have had close contact with infected patients are under medical observation, according the ministry.
