BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan on Thursday reported 74 new COVID-19 cases, raising its total number of infections to 1,594.

The country's Deputy Health Minister Nurbolot Usenbaev said at his daily online news briefing that among the newly infected, 27 are medical workers, raising the total number of infected medical workers to 326, including 247 recoveries. (Kyrgyzstan-COVID-19)

KAMPALA -- Uganda's Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday 28 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, taking its total to 281.

Of the 2,004 samples collected from cross-border drivers and the community, 21 Ugandan truck drivers who arrived from neighboring South Sudan via the Elegu border point and seven contacts of previously confirmed patients under quarantine tested positive for the virus, the ministry said in a statement. NEW DELHI -- India's federal Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare has stepped up locust control operations as the swarm outbreak has spread to five states -- Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, officials said Thursday.

According to the ministry, 200 Locust Circle Offices (LCO) were conducting survey and control operations in close coordination with local administration and agriculture field machinery in affected states to combat the menace. (India-Locust)

MOSCOW -- Russia confirmed 8,371 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 379,051, its coronavirus response center said in a statement Thursday.
