KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- A deputy provincial councilor in northern Afghan province of Kunduz has succumbed to critical injuries from a bomb attack, chairman of the council confirmed Wednesday.
Safiullah Amiri, deputy provincial councilor of Kunduz, was deeply wounded following a bomb attack in provincial capital Kunduz city at midday on Tuesday. Amiri lost his life at a hospital in Kunduz late on Tuesday, Mohammad Yusuf Ayubi told Xinhua.
The explosion, which also killed a provincial official's son and wounded two others, was the latest in a string of targeted attacks in recent months.
Kunduz province, about 250 km north of Afghan capital of Kabul, has been the scene of Taliban-led insurgency over the past decade.
