MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Two government force members were killed and four others injured in a clash with the Taliban in Afghanistan's northern Balkh province on Thursday morning, Afghan army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
The gun battle took place in the province's Chamtal district when militants attacked the local security checkpoints, leaving two government force members including an army officer dead and four other soldiers injured, the official added.
The Taliban militants also suffered casualties, Rezai said without giving the number.
Taliban militants who have intensified activities and are in control of parts of Balkh province with Mazar-e-Sharif as its capital, 305 km north of the national capital Kabul, have not made comment on the incident.
