Live COVID-19 updates: Russia logs 10,535 new cases

BEIJING, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 10,535 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, roughly the same as a day earlier, the country's COVID-19 response center said Wednesday.

The national tally has thus increased to 4,278,750 with 87,348 deaths and 3,853,734 recoveries, the center said.

SOFIA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria has reached 252,029 after 2,403 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours, official data showed on Wednesday.

The death toll in the country has risen to 10,391 after 83 patients died from COVID-19 in the last day, while the number of recoveries rose by 1,781 to 208,411, according to the nation's COVID-19 information portal.

BEIJING -- More than 52 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across China as of the end of February, Guo Weimin, the spokesperson for the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, told a press conference on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI -- Indian President Ram Nath Kovind got his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday in the capital Delhi, an official at his office said.

Kovind received the jab at the army's Research and Referral Hospital.

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan reported 45 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total count to 80,006, the Uzbek Health Ministry said Wednesday.

A total of 78,549 people have recovered from the coronavirus disease, putting the recovery rate at 98 percent, with the death toll in the country standing at 622, according to the ministry.

LUANDA -- Angola rolled out its mass vaccination against COVID-19 on Tuesday, with a 71-year-old nurse receiving the country's first jab.

Angola received 624,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday, as part of the COVAX initiative backed by the World Health Organization.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported two more COVID-19 cases in managed isolation and no new cases in the community on Wednesday.

The two imported cases came from India and the United States respectively. The U.S. case arrived on Feb. 22 and is classified as historical and not infectious, according to the Ministry of Health.

ACCRA -- Ghana will soon record a dramatic drop in COVID-19 cases as a vaccination roll-out program started to be launched here on Tuesday, said Charity Sarpong, Greater Accra Regional Director for Health Services Charity.

The roll-out of the vaccination program is the biggest game-changer in the containment of the virus, according to her.
