BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has confirmed 8,704 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 4,632,688, the official monitoring and response center said Saturday.

The national COVID-19 death toll rose by 402 to 102,649 in the past day, while the number of recoveries grew by 9,579 to 4,258,279.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 1,510 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 359,117, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that five of the new cases are imported and 1,505 are local transmissions. Malaysia reports 1,510 new COVID-19 cases, 8 more deaths

KABUL -- Afghanistan reported 16 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, raising its national tally to 57,160, including 2,677 active cases, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

"Laboratories conducted 1,292 tests during the past 24 hours, out of the total tests 16 were positive COVID-19 cases in five provinces of Afghanistan's 34 provinces," the ministry said in a statement.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported Saturday 12,674 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 853,209.

The death toll climbed to 14,744 after 225 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,723 within one day to 1,562,868, with the death toll adding by 95 to 42,443, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 3,629 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,409,288.
