QUITO -- Former banker and three-time presidential candidate Guillermo Lasso declared victory in Ecuador's presidential runoff elections Sunday, calling it a historic day for the South American country.

"This is a historic day. It is a day in which all Ecuadorians have decided their future. They have expressed with their vote the need for change and the desire for better days for all," said Lasso, after the National Electoral Council (CNE) released preliminary official results. TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday blamed Israel for the incident in central Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment site on Sunday, official news agency IRNA reported.

Israel "wants to take revenge on the Iranian people for their success in lifting the unjust sanctions, but we will not allow it," Zarif said in a meeting of the Iranian parliament's national security commission. (Iran-Israel-Nuclear Incident)

SEOUL -- South Korean stocks rebounded Monday as retail investors purchased stocks, offsetting the sell-offs by foreign and institutional investors.

KABUL -- At least 65 people were killed in direct clashes and terrorist attacks in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, an independent war monitoring group said on Monday.

"Over the past 24 hours, our team has documented 65 deaths, including six civilians, 12 Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) members, and 47 Taliban militants," the Reduction in Violence (RiV) said on its Twitter account. (Afghanistan-Clashes-Toll)
