MANDERA, Kenya -- A Kenyan police reservist was killed and two others injured when suspected Shabab militants struck for the third day running in Mandera, in northeast Kenya, early Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES -- Over 20 huge wildfires burning in the state of Arizona on Tuesday have triggered massive evacuations and road closures, the U.S. Forest Service's monitoring system Inciweb reported.
The largest, dubbed the Telegraph Fire and burning in the state's Tonto National Forest, has so far scorched 180,685 acres (731.2 square km) and is 87-percent contained, after growing just 119 acres (0.5 square km) since Sunday, Inciweb updated Tuesday night. (US-Arizona-Wildfires)

ISLAMABAD -- A powerful explosion ripped through a residential area in Lahore, the capital city of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, killing at least two people and injuring 15 others, an official said on Wednesday.
A police official, two children and a woman were among the injured, Deputy Commissioner of Lahore Mudassar Riaz Malik told Xinhua, adding that the forensic and bomb disposal investigations are underway, and evidences are being collected to determine the cause of the blast. (Pakistan-Blast)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Five people have been killed and 18 others injured as a passenger bus ran over a mine in the restive Miwand district of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Tuesday night, provincial police spokesman Jamal Barikzai said Wednesday.
"A mine planted by militants on a road in Miwand district struck a passenger bus late Tuesday night, killing five commuters including women and children and injuring 18 others," Barikzai told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Bomb)
