Kyrgyzstan's COVID-19 cases top 117,000

BISHKEK, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan's COVID-19 cases rose by 738 to 117,284 on Wednesday, the country's health authorities said.

The Republican Headquarters for Combating COVID-19 said total recoveries climbed to 106,383 with 451 more patients newly recovered during the past 24 hours, while the national death toll from the virus rose by eight to 1,953.

Currently, 2,496 patients are receiving treatment in hospital, 100 of whom are in critical condition, and 5,396 patients are receiving treatment at home.

Kyrgyzstan started administering vaccine jabs on March 29 after receiving Chinese-donated vaccines. In addition, the Central Asian country received the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia in April.

As of Wednesday, 97,538 people in Kyrgyzstan have been vaccinated, the Kyrgyz news agency AKIpress reported.
