TOKYO, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Chen Daxiang claimed the first win for China's boxing team at the Tokyo Olympics, defeating Shabbos Negmatulloev of Tajikistan in the men's light heavy (75-81kg) preliminaries on Sunday.
Chen, who was the first Chinese boxer to step into the ring at the Kokugikan Arena, started confidently with an advantage in height and reach over Negmatulloev.
The Xuzhou-born boxer edged the first round, but fell in the second while trying a more aggressive approach. Quickly rebounding in the final round, Chen ultimately won the contest 4-0.
Afterwards, Chen said he had felt a little nervous in what was his Olympic debut. "Thanks to the correct judgement of my coaches, I was able to win the match," Chen said. "This time, I want to win a medal."
Chen will now face Brazil's Keno Machado in the round of 16 on July 28.
